Biography
Nelson Mandela described Hanes' thoughts and feelings about teaching best when he stated, “Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” Being a leader in instructional design and education means that one must be a critical and creative thinker. But they also need one vital component: passion.
Hanes has experience teaching and leading in a variety of formats, her expertise in communications, business, technology, digital media and online instruction. Besides communications and technology, her research focus is using dynamic technological approaches, such as online learning, digital storytelling, social media, instructional gaming and simulations. Hanes co-authored a chapter in instructional gaming in STEM for an educational publication and she has presented at several conferences with the same topic.
Hanes regularly uses her expertise in backwards design methods to examine and evaluate the learning modules she develops. Instructional design/technology has always been her passion and she is always seeking opportunities in order to properly use her honed skills.
